Health and Safety

Increasing legislation in the workplace means we are all faced with a stautory “duty of care” in respect of risk to the general public our work colleagues and the environment. At Pestsafe we take all measures necessary to secure the health and well being of anyone who may be affected by our activities. The impact our activities may have on the environment and non-target species is also taken into account when choosing the most suitable control strategy.

All the work we carry out is fully documented. C.O.S.H.H. and risk assessments are carried out when new premises are taken onto contract or when additional work is carried out on existing contracts. Method statements are provided as and when required and a record is provided for all customers of what we have done, what we find and the products used on each visit.

It is our policy to comply with :

  • All rules and regulations in force, specific to your business activities including permit to work systems
  • Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (and regulations made under it)
  • The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002
  • COSHH (The Safe Use of Pesticides Approved Code of Practice)
  • Control of pesticide Regulations (1986)

Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

Under the Health and Safety at Work Act, we are legally obliged to consider how our pest control activities may affect the health and safety of ourselves and others in the workplace. Only persons suitably trained and instructed in the safe use of pesticides, familiar with the risk to health and the precautions necessary to prevent or control exposure are permitted to apply pesticides.

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health

It is a requirement under the C.O.S.H.H. regulations that before pesticides are used, a risk assessment is carried out to identify hazards and assess the risks. The assessment must be adequate, suitable and reviewed on a regular basis. A COSHH assessment for the products used by Pestsafe is retained in the customers own on-site pest control file. Safety Data Sheets can be accessed on this website. Prevention of exposure to rodenticides is primarily achieved by use of mandatory PPE and tamper resistant bait stations carefully located to reduce the risk of accidental contact.

Safe Use of Pesticides Approved Code of Practice(COSHH)

Only approved pesticides are used by Pestsafe. All pesticides are applied, transported, stored and disposed of in compliance with the label instructions and other relevant legislation. A record (Treatment report) documents the quantity, type and date of application of all pesticides used on customers premises.
